Va Couples Therapy - You are both successful, intelligent and hardworking, so why can't you solve the recurring problems in your relationship? It feels like you're falling apart. Your relationship has lost its spark and you fight over small things (constantly). You feel more exasperated than excited when it comes to your partner, and even though you're still a "couple," you feel lonely.

You work so hard to make money that you don't have enough time to focus on your own needs, let alone the needs of the relationship. You know you need someone else to step in and help your relationship because the breakup problem has become too much for you.

I'm Jenny McKinney, a licensed clinical social worker and certified Gottman Couples Therapist with 30 years of experience. I'm also a military spouse and a DoD wife and mother of two, so I've probably been through a lot of the same struggles as you, and I promise you that there is hope for a meaningful and vibrant relationship.

Couples Therapy And Marriage Counseling In Charlottesville, Va — Full Life Counseling

I use a research-based method of couples therapy called the Gottman Method. This method uses a very specific structure and process that is clear, based on learning skills, and focused on developing emotional intelligence. Tools and skills are autonomous and applicable to different situations. This type of counseling is not just about feelings. Instead, you will learn structures and patterns for communication and conflict resolution.

One of the saddest reasons marriages fail is that neither spouse recognizes its value until it is too late.

Ultimately, Gottman couples therapy helps you reconnect, communicate on a deeper level, and heal from the pain in your relationship. Couples who come to me for therapy find that they are better able to:

Couples therapy will help you understand exactly what you need to work on as a couple, how to do it, and what you can continue to do regularly to stay on track even years after therapy ends.

Rekindle the love you once had. I know you can come out of this difficult time stronger and with a new sense of "we".

Rediscovering or renewing friendships doesn't stop people from arguing. This gives them a secret weapon that prevents conflicts from spiraling out of control.

During the COVID-19 lockdown, we will be meeting online via a secure video platform. You will have access to digital information and worksheets and we can easily share them.

Couples therapy sessions last 90 minutes. I charge $250 for a 90 minute session. During the evaluation phase, each participant must complete one 60-minute session at a cost of $175 per person. There are also 2 paired lessons during the assessment. I currently offer a $950 evaluation package that includes a relationship review fee (this is for out-of-pocket or out-of-pocket couples).

Introducing Hsin Chieh (jenny) Fang, M.s., Mft

If you pay with insurance, your couples therapy evaluation does not include the $39 fee to take the Gottman Relationship Test through Gottman Connect online. This is an additional fee, but I do not charge it. You pay this to access the exam. There is an additional fee for the Gottman Relationship Builder, which is a series of videos and handouts that can be viewed on your own or used as homework. Access to Relationship Builder costs $149 and you own the product for life. It's a great service and training tool.

Insurance companies require a mental health diagnosis to cover treatment or counseling. And while 90-minute sessions allow us to work more intensively, most policies don't cover that much time.

Check with your insurance company to see if your classes can contribute to your annual deductible. You can also use a flexible spending account to pay for couples therapy.

With any questions. My goal is to work with you to try to make an affordable consultation within your insurance coverage and needs.

What To Expect From Couples Counseling

Intensive marriage counseling or marathon couples therapy are available depending on your needs. This can be a great option for couples with limited schedules. The workload is usually 6 hours of treatment in one day with breaks every few hours. All Marathon Couples Treatments begin with the Gottman Relationship Assessment and Test, as described in How Does the Gottman Method Work in Marriage Counseling?

The fee for Intensive Therapy after evaluation (evaluation fee is separate and must be completed prior to booking Intensive Therapy) is $1,000.00 for 6 hours of treatment in one day. Fees payable (1/2 at booking and 1/2 at treatment).

How To Find Free Military Marriage Counseling

As a certified Gottman Couples Therapist, my goal is to guide you in talking to each other, not to force you to spend most of your time talking to me. As a result, you can have deeper conversations that you wouldn't normally have outside of therapy. This creates momentum for your interactions outside of the treatment room and in everyday life.

The first session is a 90-minute structured interview about your history, scientifically designed to elicit information that will help your relationship. You will then complete the online Gottman Relationship Assessment and I will meet with you individually. You will then come back in pairs for a 90-minute practice where I will teach you one of Gottman's techniques to see if it works for you.

We will continue to meet weekly for 90 minutes until you feel you have achieved your goals and are comfortable using the communication methods on your own on a regular basis.

If one of the partners has already decided to divorce and is only interested in attending counseling so that he can communicate this decision to his partner, the Gottman method is not suitable.

New Trends In Couples Therapy And How They Can Help Keep A Relationship Together

If your goal is to understand and you want mediation, the Gottman method is not suitable. If you are in doubt about divorce, you may want to try discernment first.

If domestic violence continues and is one of the main problems in the relationship, the Gottman method is not suitable.

If you live separately and want to conduct therapy on a three-way video conferencing platform, this pairing method will not meet your needs. This type of healing is a conversation between two people in the same room/space. Although I am remote and will help you through the forum, it is not an ideal method if you are both far apart and I am only licensed in the state of Virginia so your partner cannot be out of state or country . 12751 Marblestone Dr, Suite 200, Woodbridge, VA 22192 | 3930 Walnut St, Suite 250, Fairfax, VA 22030 |

A love relationship is one of the biggest investments we make in life. When our relationships suffer, it's hard to bear the pain it creates. Couples tend to find themselves in the same "dance". We all have ways of relating that make us vulnerable to conflict, blame, defensiveness, and distance.

Ma In Marriage And Family Therapy

When partners play this dance over and over again, it creates discomfort in the relationship. One partner "chases" connection and permission. The other partner then begins to "withdraw" to reduce tension and avoid further conflict.

In a relationship, this dance becomes its own source of pain. Partners become protective and critical, withdrawn and unavailable. You may be fighting the same issues over and over again. You may feel frustrated because of the different ways you respond to emotions. You may find it difficult to heal the trauma of a relationship. Or you just want to be more connected.

We work with couples who identify as intimate. We work with couples who are dating, cohabiting, preparing for the next level of commitment, newlyweds, couples with children, and those who have been married for a while. Wherever you are in your relationship, we want to help you create close relationships you can trust and rely on.

Emotion-focused couples therapy has been shown to create lasting changes in adult romantic relationships. It is an evidence-based, well-researched model of recovery. This type of healing offers a proven roadmap for emotional intimacy, recovery, and connection.

Two Common Marriage Counseling Questions Answered

Most often we work with couples to identify and calm their outdated dance. We then move below that pattern to begin talking about the pain, needs, and wants that were the real issues. Can you be there for me when I need you? Am I important to you? Will you respond to my pain when I'm in pain?

Couples are encouraged to talk more openly and vulnerably about what they need from each other, especially during difficult times.

As it is
